Cighan Bike

Solid Denim Bike

Cighan Project Lab pioneers the creation of bicycle components using composite materials derived from fashion waste (Textile Composite). The bicycles made from fashion waste by Cighan are the first and only ones in the world. They are not only unique and environmentally friendly by reducing waste but also meet customer needs as functional bike products. The textile composite material we produce is inspired by Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) and Carbon Fiber technologies. FRP is commonly used in the mining industry to patch leaking pipes due to its corrosion and rust resistance. Carbon Fiber, on the other hand, is widely utilized in the automotive industry, including in modern bicycle manufacturing, for its lightweight and high-strength properties comparable to steel. We have adopted techniques from both materials to create our textile composite. For the outer layer, we use denim, while the inner layer incorporates non-stretch fabric waste of various types.

Seaweed: Nature's Renewable Solution for Sustainable Material and a Cleaner Future

Seaweed, a powerful ally of the ocean, offers remarkable gelling properties through its unique polymer structure, making it a perfect choice for innovative packaging. Naturally inert, seaweed films can blend seamlessly with bioactive compounds, creating flexible, sustainable solutions. In this project, we are committed to using only locally sourced, plant-based ingredients, ensuring our products are not just eco-friendly but also renewable. By harnessing the power of seaweed, we support carbon capture, promote the Blue Economy, and contribute to a circular economy. This approach champions climate neutrality, reduces waste, and enhances maritime ecosystem management, paving the way for a zero-pollution future.

Tepi Lighting Series

What if the materials we discard held untapped potential for beauty? The Tepi Lighting Series reimagine how we perceive waste teak wood by blending its raw, organic edges with the sleek precision of stainless steel. Each lamp highlights the rugged, tactile texture of reclaimed wood against the smooth, polished metal, creating a dynamic interplay between natural imperfections and industrial refinement. In the timber-based furniture industry, the outer layers of wood are often discarded—deemed too soft, brittle, and lacking in strength for traditional use. This excess material, despite its flaws, carries untapped potential. The Tepi Lighting Series began with a simple question: can we find new purpose and beauty in what is typically cast aside? By re-examining these offcuts, we sought to reveal the hidden value within, turning what was once considered waste into something meaningful. Through this process, we discovered that even the most overlooked materials can tell a powerful story when seen in a different

Be and Why (B&W)

Banyu Biru

In Indonesia, plastic waste accounts for 18.08% of total waste, making it the second-largest type of waste, while fabric waste contributes around 2.58%. This ongoing issue continues to be a significant challenge for the country. Inspired by this problem, we created a collection that combines two waste materials—discarded denim and used plastic bags—by pressing them into fashion products such as bags and accessories. We named the collection "Banyu Biru," where "Banyu" means water or waste, and "Biru" (blue) symbolizes color or scars. The Banyu Biru collection aims to help reduce plastic and denim waste, particularly in the Bali region.
